Riverdale mother reportedly confesses to killing baby with ‘punch’

A Utah woman is in jail after she reportedly admitted to beating her 2-month-old baby to death.

The 26-year-old woman called police in Riverdale (about 4 miles southwest of Ogden) on Sunday to report her baby was not breathing. According to a probable cause statement, she told dispatchers the child was “‘gone’ over and over.” When police arrived, officers found the infant dead with “multiple injuries that are consistent with aggravated child abuse.”

According to police, the woman told them her baby would not stop crying so she gave him a “hard punch … to the head,” and that he eventually stopped breathing. She did not seek medical attention for the baby.

The mother told police she had previously hit the baby, thrown him into his crib and pushed down on his chest — and that she knew her actions could hurt him, according to the probable cause statement.

The woman is being held without bail in the Weber County jail for investigation of aggravated murder. The Salt Lake Tribune generally does not name suspects unless they have been formally charged with a crime.

The Cheesecake Factory to open a new location in Utah County

A new restaurant is coming to Orem — one that will be familiar to Salt Lake County diners. The Cheesecake Factory has announced that it’s opening a new location at University Place mall, at 575 E.
