A man is in custody after police found a woman dead near a dumpster in Millcreek, according to a news release from the Unified Police Department.
Authorities were dispatched to a report of a deceased woman near 3994 South 300 West at about 6:20 a.m. Saturday, according to the release. The woman was later identified as a 25-year-old Salt Lake City resident, police said.
Security footage from a nearby business showed a man pulling a body from a black truck at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, investigators said in the release. The man attempted to dispose of the body in the dumpster, but he fled the scene after leaving the woman beside the dumpster, according to the release.
Detectives identified the vehicle’s owner from the license plate shown in the footage, and preliminary findings suggest the woman was fatally shot while inside the man’s vehicle, authorities said. The Tribune does not generally name suspects before they are formally charged.
Investigators believe the woman’s death was “a culmination of an elongated violent domestic violence history” between the man and woman, the news release states.
Police later arrested the man at a local hospital where he was attempting to be evaluated, according to the release. The man is in police custody and will be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of murder, authorities said.
