A conspiracy theorist may be on Utahns’ ballots for president after suing the state

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a conspiracy theorist and independent presidential candidate, is one important step closer to being on Utahns’ ballot next fall.

Kennedy has met the 1,000 signature requirement needed to qualify for Utah’s 2024 general election as an independent candidate, according to Ron Buckley, Salt Lake County’s voter services manager. CBS News first reported the story Thursday evening.

With the signatures hurdle complete, Kennedy can officially file to run as a presidential candidate with the Utah lieutenant governor’s office between Jan. 2 and March 5, Buckley told The Salt Lake Tribune.

The March deadline is the result of a lawsuit Kennedy and others filed earlier this month against Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson arguing the state’s previous Jan. 8 deadline was too restrictive.

Neither the lieutenant governor’s office nor Kennedy’s campaign responded to a request to comment on Friday morning.

Kennedy visited Salt Lake City in November, where he discussed conspiracy theories in front of a crowd of hundreds of people. He plans to visit Salt Lake City next week, on Jan. 3, to discuss his “ballot status,” according to his campaign website.

This story is breaking and may be updated.
