Police release name of man killed in Sugar House shooting
Police have identified the man who was shot and killed Thursday in Sugar House, according to a Sunday news release.
Tayvin Troy Brandon, 34, was killed near 1100 East and Simpson Avenue, the release said.
Police said at 2:17 a.m. they received reports of a shooting near the eastern edge of Fairmont Park. When they arrived, they found Brandon, who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
The alleged shooter, a 46-year-old man, remained on the scene and is cooperating with police, the release said. He has not been arrested and hasn’t been charged.
Police didn’t release the alleged shooter’s name on Sunday. The Salt Lake Tribune generally doesn’t identify suspects unless they have been charged with a crime.
Homicide detectives will work with the district attorney’s office to decide whether the use of force was criminal, which is standard procedure in any death investigation, the release said.
This is the 15th homicide in Salt Lake City so far this year, police said.
