Clearfield man jailed after allegedly killing grandparents

Emergency responders found a violent scene Wednesday after a Clearfield couple was allegedly slain by their grandson.

Suspect Jeremy Belt, 26, was booked into the Davis County jail just after 1 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning.

Police from multiple agencies were dispatched to a house near Steed Park around 3 p.m. after a woman, 60, found her 87-year-old father and 85-year-old mother dead in the garage. She told officers her son, still inside the home, was likely responsible. Responders reported “traumatic injuries” to the elderly couple who were “beyond help,” according to a news release from Clearfield City Police Department.

After police surrounded the home, Belt allegedly called his mother. She handed the phone over to an officer, who coaxed Belt to exit. Belt was then taken into custody without incident, according to the news release.

Officers found “other acts of violence” from earlier in the day after investigating the scene but did not provide details. They encourage any potential witnesses to contact the police department at 801-525-2800.

An inmate roster shows Belt was charged with aggravated murder, assault, transaction of a dangerous weapon, possession of a controlled substance, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal mischief.

Police did not identify the victims pending notification of family members.
